The description of the video linked in the last article has been updated to include something rather interesting. It simply reads:

“Something is due to happen here. → http://miku-39.jp“.

The website shows a calendar with the dates August 1st and August 8th circled to indicate some sort of events. There is also a line under the last week of August leading up to Miku’s Birthday, which might indicate something will also be happening for that entire week. Not much else is known besides what we see on the teaser page, so share it with your friends and watch closely to see what happens!

Created by Mitchie M, this amazing PV to celebrate Miku’s Birthday uses all of the Cryptonloids (minus Miku herself) for the music. And despite being over a month early, that doesn’t make the song and video any less amazing. Well done!

Click to visit the official Miku Flick 2 page.

It’s only been four months since the release of the first Miku Flick game for iPhone, which proved to be a largely popular success with it’s international release on the iTunes market. SEGA has just announced and is preparing to roll out the next game in the series, Miku Flick 2.

The new game will offer 10 new songs, 3 less than the previous game. 9 songs will be available from the start, while the 10th song remains an unlockable mystery, although some suspect it will be Hatsune Miku no Gekishou (The Singing Passion of Hatsune Miku). The known songs are:

Love is War
Hajimete no Oto
Meltdown
Butterfly On Your Right Shoulder
Just Be Friends
Clover Club
Magnet
Promise
Two-Faced Lovers

The game will cost less (900 JPY for Miku Flick 2, versus 1200 JPY for the first). This should also translate to a cheaper prices on the international stores. The first game launched with a price of $15 USD, which has since dropped to just $11. So if you haven’t played it yet, you can grab it here. The launch date for Miku Flick 2 is not yet announced. The minimum supported devices include the iPhone 3GS (8GB not supported), iPod Touch 3nd gen (8GB not supported), and the iPad.

Winning Snow Miku 2013 Design Announced

In unrelated news, how many of you have heard the announcement of the new Snow Miku 2013 design? The contest on Piapro had a few very interesting finalist designs, and the winner comes as quite a surprise. This will be the biggest change to the Snow Miku design to date, which shows Miku fully adorned in a traditional kimono.

This is the winning Snow Miku 2013 design.

This will certainly lead to some challenges for SEGA, Crypton, and Goodsmile Company’s design teams, but it will be interesting to see the products that result from the design. To show just how big the change is, I found two images of similar styles that compares the 2012 and 2013 versions side-by-side.

How many of you managed to stay up last night and watch the live Voca Nico Night performance on Nicovideo last night? Quite an event, right? It was an awesome way for them to kick off the start of a 7 week event called “Joypolis”. There they will be holding regular small live performance events, as well as an area with playable copies of Project Diva F well before the game is even set to launch.

The building will divide the action into three sections so that each attraction goes undisturbed. Mini concerts will take place on floor 2 a couple times a day for 15 minutes intervals. The featured songs will be “Weekender Girl”, “Odds & Ends”, and “Time Machine”. The third floor is where the Project Diva F gaming sessions take place.

The event is set to run until September 2nd. To view the site about the event, click the banner above. It’s in Japanese of course, but there’s something interesting in the bottom image. Is that another life-sized Hatsune Miku figurine I see, or the old one from Sapporo earlier this year?

This is a song and a 3DPV that deserves a special mention from me, because mikuru396 is the entire reason I’m here right now. So I’ll tell you the story of how I came to be where I am today.

Back in late 2007, a friend of mine in Singapore who now goes by the name of Fuzzy (and one of the owners of kyourankyodai) was often mentioning this odd female character with teal colored twin tails. I didn’t show a whole lot of interest at the time. But then on December 15th, 2007, he linked me to the 3DPV of “Melody…” (or Melody.exe as some call it) from nicovideo on the day it was uploaded.

This was the first Vocaloid video I ever saw.

The first thing that caught my eye was the visuals. It was in a style I had never seen before. But what caught my interest the most was the fact that the Vocals were 100% synthesized. We had tools like Microsoft Sam to make our computers speak, so the fact that there was a program to make your computer sing was quite astonishing.

It was thanks to that song by Mikuru396 that I got involved in Vocaloid when I did. Now fast forward to today, and we have a brand new song by the same artist titled “:Re”. This song was created as the “answer” and successor for his classic “Melody…”. This song… This PV… It’s beautiful. It brings back so many memories of the older days, and it makes me remember when the Vocaloid community was something small and obscure. I’ve had the chance to watch the community blossom to what it is now over the past 4.5 years. Those thoughts, combined with this song, actually made me cry. It was that powerful.

But enough with my own emotions. Let’s move onto the song itself. The track was composed by Mikuru396, and the PV was made by Brother-P.
