At the recent Nico Nico Choukaigi 3 event last weekend, Good Smile Company had a booth where they showed off three different Hatsune Miku figures. The reveal brings some new updates and info to a couple of them.

The first figure on display was the 1/10 scale Sakura Miku, which has been previously revealed and is already on open preorder until June 16th. Preorders will ship in October 2014.

The second figure was the painted version of the “2013 EV Mirai ver.” Figma, which is inspired by Saitom’s illustration of Racing Miku for the Isle of Man biking event. There is no announced preorder or shipment date at this time.

The last figure on display was the 1/7th scale “Mikuzukin ver.” (aka, Red Riding Hood) figure, inspired by Hatsune Miku’s outfit from Project Diva 2nd on PSP for the song “Clover Club”. The original sculpture was created by Grizzry Panda as a garage kit some time ago, and Max Factory recently picked up the design. The display revealed the planned release period: October 2014. So preorders can be expected to open very soon.

Back in late January, I was contacted by a Japanese Vocaloid producer by the name of “ddh“, who requested to interview me for an article on Nicovideo Blomaga Blog. He was curious to learn more about Vocaloid fans from overseas, and wanted to share his findings with other fans from the Japanese community.

The interview is very in depth and covers a lot of topics, so you’ll find the full English translated interview in the rest of the story. Keep in mind that the following was written by ddh himself. The original Japanese interview can be found here.

The 2014 Winter Wonder Festival has finally passed, and it revealed a number of surprises. This is a slightly late report, but here’s a summary of the notable announcements.

Three new figure sculptures were revealed for upcoming releases, and these include: A 1/7 scale “Hood Miku” by Max Factory based on the module/outfit from Project Diva 2nd on PSP. A 1/8 scale figure of 2013 Racing Miku’s “Sepang” outfit style by FREEing. And lastly, A Figma by Max Factory of 2013’s Racing Miku design for the Man of Isle bike race event was revealed. The bike is expected to be a separate accessory. Release dates are still unannounced.

Images of these two figures have been leaked before recently from a magazine, but now we finally have better official photos. A new nendoroid and figma design has been created for the upcoming lottery promotion at Family Mart stores in Japan. Both of them have Miku in a Spring school outfit, and the Figma features a different eye color, oddly enough. The event is expected to start in March.

Hatsune Miku is the mascot for Good Smile Company’s racing division, and she gets a new outfit design every year. This year’s design was drawn by the illustrator named Oguchi, and even Good Smile Racing’s BWM Z4 sports the new design. The typical Figma and Nendoroid sponsorship packages are planned, but not yet available for purchase.

For the last announcement, preorders for the Snow Miku Figma, as well as the Magical Snow version Nendoroid are now open until February 17th JST. The Figma is priced at 4115 Yen ($41 USD), while the Nendoroid’s price is set at 4629 Yen ($46 USD). Both are exclusive to Good Smile Company’s online shop, and can be ordered in quantities up to 3 of each. Orders over $100 also get free shipping! The expected shipment period is July 2014.

On November 2nd, it was announced that Crypton Future Media’s CEO, Hiroyuki Ito, was selected to receive the Blue Ribbon Medal of Honor from the Japanese government, making it the 16th Blue Ribbon medal awarded in 132 years. The medal is awarded to “individuals who have made significant achievements in the areas of public welfare or public service”.

Crypton was recognized for the creation of Hatsune Miku, who is now widely considered to be the world’s most-recognized Japanese idol. She helped spark a creative boom that has resulted in a nearly endless amount of derivative works, and allows creative freedoms in a time where media copyrights are becoming more restrictive.

Upon news of the award, Ito commented that it felt odd that a younger person such as himself is now suddenly grouped in with other older and distinguished individuals. More here (Japanese only).

Details of the Snow Miku Sapporo event as well as dates have finally been announced. The first stage of the event is the unveiling of the new Snow Miku tram car, which will be active in Sapporo City between November 18th 2013, and March 28th 2014. The only preview we have so far is the pixelated image below, showing that this year’s tram car will be colored purple.

Visitors will be allowed to preview the completed car a day early on November 17th, and even take pictures (no photography will be allowed inside the car during the operating period). It was also revealed that you can hear Fujita Saki, the voice provider for Hatsune Miku’s software, making special special announcements inside the tram car during operation.

The operation schedule can be found from Sapporo City’s homepage, and updates to the Snow Miku event can be found from the official page: SnowMiku.com. The main Snow Miku Sapporo event is scheduled to run between February 5th and 11th 2014, but further details have yet to be announced.

Today was the 9th anniversary of the release of Meiko’s software, and Crypton decided to use this day to reveal new information about Meiko’s V3 software update, as well as open up preorders (Japan only for now). It has been announced that Meiko’s V3 software will include 5 vocal styles: Power, Straight (original), Dark, Whisper and English (this one was a surprise). The planned launch period is sometime in the first quater of 2014.

The first demo song titled “逆襲のMEIKO” was composed by BingoBongoP, and used the Power vocal style. The second demo is titled “A Certain Night“, and was composed by ゴゼンP using the Straight and Power voice styles.

Crypton is also holding an anniversary celebration on Karent with several new albums featuring Meiko, as well as a wallpaper download. So go check it out.

SEGA didn’t want to miss out either, and is offering two wallpapers for download: A Project Mirai 2nd themed wallpaper, and one based on Project Diva Arcade: Future Tone. You can grab both from their official blog post.
